Phase 1 is Live Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS in Rome recently went live with phase one of a new patient portal specifically designed for children with chronic diseases, built on InterSystems Personal Community. The new system facilitates the interaction between clinicians and patient families through a secure and remote feedback loop, which enables a more efficient care process by reducing in-person hospital visits, especially during the current pandemic.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. & WASHINGTON -- Since COVID-19 arrived in the United States in early 2020, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been diligently working to protect one of the nation’s most vulnerable populations: veterans.
The health of thousands of kids hung in the balance. By mid-March, Damien Carey, integration team supervisor for Florida-based Nemours Children’s Health System, had undertaken a sprawling telehealth expansion. The risk of COVID-19 infection drove Nemours to transition nearly all outpatient visits to virtual care. If Carey and his eight-person team succeeded, pediatric patients and their families would gain a clear path to care. If the data operation failed, the children could suffer.
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people in China did whatever they could to avoid hospitals. But as the outbreak grew and communities enacted stay-at-home restrictions, one team from InterSystems ran to the frontlines.

By March, when the Italian region of Lazio directed Gemelli Hospital to lead its clinical response to COVID-19, the pandemic had turned the world’s attention to the nation. Italy instituted a strict lockdown as the death toll climbed, chiefly in the northern regions. Rome, where Gemelli is based, was bracing for impact.
In 2013, Lincolnshire, the fourth largest county in England, undertook a major review aimed at transforming its health and social care services. The goal was to move healthcare out of hospitals and situate it closer to patients’ homes wherever possible.
Scenes from Italy at the dawn of the pandemic seemed otherworldly. Patients, often struggling to breathe, lined cramped hallways and waiting rooms in hospitals that had run out of beds. The death toll leaped into the thousands, warning the rest of the world of COVID-19’s propensity for ruin.
University Hospital Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) has been leveraging InterSystems HealthShare® Health Connect to power critical data flows across multiple systems to alert clinicians and manage patients with COVID-19 diagnosis within the hospital.
The eHealth Exchange active in all 50 states is the oldest and largest national health information network in the U.S.
As New York City emerged as the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, the demand for reliable, accessible healthcare data grew increasingly urgent. Healthix, the nation’s largest public health information exchange, serving more than 20 million patients, rose to the challenge by immediately developing COVID-19 Alerts.
By mid-March, Nebraska was facing a challenge unlike any other. As the coronavirus spread through the Heartland, the need for all healthcare providers to quickly report data on hospital admissions, lab testing, and other medical events became vital to the state’s response.
Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) has been leveraging InterSystems HealthShare® and Health Insight to increase the visibility of COVID-19 diagnoses among the healthcare team. In response to the pandemic, the Health Information Exchange (HIE) team at PSJH rapidly implemented two new ways to help physicians on the front line fight and manage the COVID-19 crisis by alerting them of patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
When COVID-19 appeared in China, medical organizations acted quickly to launch a large-scale battle by mobilizing all resources to block the spread of the virus. This also required a rapid response from InterSystems to help our customers apply software configurations to match new and rapidly evolving work practices.

There are many models for delivering EMR-enabled telehealth services, and we are pleased to announce the expansion of our own offering using TrakCare. In an earlier issue of the OnTrak News Flash, we described our initial Skype integration, which was a quick-and-easy way to launch Skype calls in context directly from the patient record. Our expanded telehealth framework is flexible in that it can be deployed with tools other than Skype by a patient providing their personal ID, email address, or phone number.
